Default Tr 230/224

Is anybody out ther using the Tunnder Racing Reverse Split 230/224 .575/.563 111 LSA cam?? I am about to consider this cam and looking for input. My engine is stock except for LT headers and a LS6 intake.

I know its a reverse split cam. They are made to work extremely well with stock heads.

I had that cam in my car and I was very pleased w/ the results. It has good street manners in a 6 speed(I'm sure an auto would be fine w/ a good tune) and makes good usable power. I swapped it out for the MS4 and up to about 4800RPM the 2 cams were indistinguishable by my butt dyno. I ran a low 12's w/ 115-117 trap speeds consistently with stock heads, LT's & ORY, lid & K&N, 12 bolt w/ 4.10's, and LS1 intake.

I have it now, with stock heads as well. Great midrange torque and drives just like stock. It also has a wicked idle, i turn heads everywhere i go.

its not really bad with stock gears but it really prefers 4:10's

i drove mine for a few weeks before i junked my 3rd 10 bolt for the 9".
just have to slip the clutch a tad more . the idle is very choppy and mean sounding . you wont be dissapointed at all

The cam isn't designed to work with stock heads as much as it is a stock LS1/LS6 intake. The GM intakes are restrictive, and the additional intake duration is to "crutch" this problem (as described by Geoff Skinner owner of Thunder).

As long as your heads have close the the same intake/exhaust flow ratio as a stock LS1 head, you'll be fine using one of these reverse splits. A LS1 motor that works well with a single pattern cam will work well with a reverse split.

The F.A.S.T. intake will help to eliminate some of the intake restriction, but will still be lacking compared to a good single plane intake.

i loved the TR230 in my old car. It's more of a medium chop at idle than evil popcorn maker lope. Mine idled at 850rpm.

i hear nothing but good things from these reverse split cams. seems to make nice power and torque. saw a vid of a guy with a reverse split cam pull on a ms3 from a roll!! didnt expect that. im looking into those reverse split cams or the tr 230/236.

I love the way it sounds at idle. Completely badass in IMO(for a streetable cam anyway). And mine doesnt bog down or anything in 1st at all, but i have 4.10s. From what the guys at thunder told me, this cam drives ok with 3.42s, but it does do a ton better with a little more gear.

Like everyone said, you wont be dissapointed with this cam.

Blk97WS6, I see in your sig that you are running 100 hp n20 set up. How does this cam respond to it? Normally on nitrous you want the duration split the other way to handle the extra exhaust created by nitrous useage. Curious as to how the engine reacts in any manner. CJay

Cjay, I know this question isn't directed at me, but it is a question that often comes up. As long as you're spraying less than a ~150ish shot, most all of these small cams will respond well. You don't want your camshaft timing tailored for nitrous usage unless you are spraying large amounts of nitrous. Once you're at or above the 200-shot range and spray often, then perhaps a single pattern or convetional split camshaft would perform better.

hey im runnin that cam now with lt's air lid and stock everything else (gears, intake, mass air, pulleys). I have been 11.80's cam only the car is a 02 z28 six speed. it made 390 rwhp on motor and 480rwhp on a 100 shot zex kit with a really safe tune hope this helps. I have not ran the car on spray still on a 10 bolt.

I have the TR230 and just love it! It pulls well from the get go all the way to the top in my six speed. It also sounds bad *** thanks to the 111 LSA. Very good cam for a stock motor with bolt ons. Gets a lot of looks at the stop light.
