Default Nothing good can come from this....

I just changed my oil and discovered about 20 or more small, what appears to be needle bearings, that are just under a quarter inch long and smaller in diameter than a standard pencil lead stuck to the drain plug. Here is the kicker...the car runs like a scolded dog and purrs like a kitten.Anybody have any idea where they came from?

send your originals off to be rebuilt. its like $250 and they are converted to roller bearings instead of needle.

Get a set of replacement rockers or have them sent off to Harlan and rebuilt like someone already suggested if you plan on going with a cam in the future. Don't waste your time on different rocker ratios either.

I really appreciate the help guys but I got another question.I have the valve covers off and there is nothing obviously wrong that I can see.Do I have have to take the rockers out and inspect them, or if the bearing has come apart there should be something I can see or feel with them installed?

You may have to pull all the bolts and pull the rockers to inspect them. Chances are.....they will have too much tension on them to really feel anything.

Without the bearings you might be able to "push" the rocker from side to side.

It will "wobble"

It will be real obvious when you find the bad one.

I wouldn't just fix the one though.

True. Same batch as the others.

Are these mostly 98's? 110,000 on my 99 and never had a problem.

Lifters Don't have Bearings....

It's been Documented many times that the needle bearings fail.

So there are no needle bearings in the roller lifters. But wouldn't I have found at least one or two bearings still setting in the head? Please do not trash me I am just trying to figure this out so I do not create excess work for myself. Thanks
