Default Hotcam install in a '02 Z tomorrow, question re...

the shims that come with the Hotcam kit. It is my understanding with the '02+ LS1 motors their valve seals allow one to install the Hotcam kit without the shims and still have the appropiate, installed spring height. Is this indeed correct? Thanks.

Correct. They are both .045 thick.

...TommyTA did this cam change last week. He has a 00 Bird and swaped out the shims... according to him, a real PITA. (Anyway, car is now FAST!)

..we compared the thickness of the old and new shims - they are real close...we could not believe this would make much of a differnce in the installed spring hieght....

...someone on the board said the swap is not essental for the older cars but I'm not sure who said this or what it is based on....
