Default Dart 205's or 225's!

Looking at some Dart heads. Are the 205's better than 225's?
The car will have a ported TB, mild cam and true duels with long tubes. Im just not sure which heads.

Also does Dart make decent heads for the money?

Anybody interested in the stock heads?

I'm running an early set of 205's. Don't think they make the power of AFR but they will boost your compression due to the small chamber and the parts are good quality.

I had the 225s with a 224-228 cam and daily drove it. Ran very well! Didnt have doggy or dead spots that some fear with bigger heads. You may need to mill them a bit for compression and check your PTV clearance depending how big your cam is.

with a smaller cam you're better off going with the smaller intake runner. it will boost your low and mid range power, with only a small sacrifice on the top end.

the bigger cams like the mid 23x+ would be better suited for the 225 runners.

as for the quality...as the saying goes "you get what you pay for"

they are decent heads for the money, are there better..yes...for $500-1000 more. all to gain maybe 10-15hp.

I have researched this alot and these are good heads. You can do better, if you want to spend another $1k. But it also depends on your needs. If your going to go with a cam that needs upgraded springs from the psi's that come on the darts you might do better with a set of tsp, patriot or livernois 243's that will run you the same to a little more with a double spring setup. But with the darts you are also getting new castings with room to grow (once porting development is further along) for a good price.

Even the 225 is not a "big" intake runner for the 346. If you don't have money to burn, these are a good option and a good buy in my opinion and people are putting down good numbers with these. I would go with them over the 205's.

Id go with the 205's. According to the flow data the 225 dont out flow the 205's until .400" lift

Heres the specs on the mild cam thats going in:

220/220/116 CENTERLINE, .581 LIFT

Im thinking the 205's will be fine. Im getting them for only $1619 including shipping and with Titanium retainers and Beehive springs. I think the price is ok and they should work pretty good.

Personally...between the two I'd get the 205's and port them. I think the Dart heads shine the best when ported by someone experienced. The "as cast" Darts aren't much to get excited about.

The shop where these are coming from said that porting them doesnt warrant much of a hp gain versus the cost to do the work so I opted to not. Maybe down the road when I want to spend more $$ I will put on a 90/90 intake, swap out the heads and go with a larger cam. Also if the funds permit go with a set of turbos and really bump up the hp #'s.

Im also thinking down the road I might like to sell the car and build or have built a Factory Five GTM car with a set of twin turbos and a LS7, my goal would be to get 700 hp in a car that only weighs 2000lbs.

Darts are a great head for the price. I would put it down to one simple question, Do you plan to go with more cubes later? If the answer is yes then buy the 225s. I went with the 205s, which I still have on my 383 now, and need to buy another set of heads to work more efficiently with the 383.

205's are fine for stock displacement and the relatively small cam you have. You CAN go too big on the intake runners and 225 would be too big for that setup.
