Default Cam selection for a solid roller 408

Alright guys I had a SR 408 that was a 14:1 compression race motor with Dart pro-1 heads (flow around 360) etc and I am getting out of the drag racing scene. I am lowering the compression to the 11.5-11.75 area (pump gas) and want to maximize the cam.

Here are the details:

Auto trans with a 3800 stall converter

I like lope but I dont want a HUGE cam that has trouble holding idle, poor vacuum etc.

It is in a light car about 2900lbs so a ton of torque isnt a necessity.

Any recommendations?

Who out there is the "best" to recommend or supply a cam?

Thanks

patrick g or predator are very smart about cams so eith of them should steer you in the right direction. with that light of a vehicle something in the 250/255 range should get you some nice results, maybe the texas giant or similar like a 251/257 .

A solid roller for a 408 is going to look pretty big to those accustomed to seeing hydraulic cam durations at .050".

Lowering the SCR and taming down the overlap will reduce your duration a lot and narrow your LSA by a small amount. Comp makes a number of excellent SR grinds. The exact duration will depend heavily on your head flow info (intake/exhaust flow at mid-lifts especially important) intake manifold selection, exhaust, transmission gearing and rear end ratio. More info is needed to give you anything better than a ballpark figure.
