Default Which melling?

Did some searching and saw that melling pumps are pretty good, and considering Speed Inc has a sale on them I was hoping to pick one up for my cam swap. Which would be better for me? I am putting in somewhat of a mild cam, nothing huge by any means. should I go with the 96 high pressure one or the 95 stock replacement? I hear that the stock replacement one still flows 40+ psi at warm idle. thanks for your help.

I just put the 96 in my wife's car. Figured the extra volume could never hurt

I have an 04 vette that I'm putting in trickflow heads and a custom cam 224/228 ? I've heard that the higher volume oil pumps could flow too much leaving the oil pan dry?

true, but probably not going to ever happen in 90% of these applications.

Angry

My son's 99 Trans-Am spun a rod bearing, and I think the Melling oil pump is the culprit. He had just purchased the car, and drove it 3 hours to get home. Shortly after getting horn, the engine started knocking very loud. After pulling the oil pan, and finding a rod bearing shot, I think the oil pan was cavitating due to the high volume pump.

Anyone else actually have this happen besides us?

I have been beating on mine since last year, and my psi has never fallen under 60, I just put an extra 1/2 quart of german castrol 0-30! pressure stays constant hot or cold!
Gotta love the instant pressure at start up.

I got mine at speedinc too! Frazier is one helpful and knowledgeable guy!

Couldn't be because of the extra volume attributed to the Pump. Maybe the install was off? PM me for the best price on the Melling Oil Pump #10296.
