best dual springs out there, in my opinion. which ones are you looking at? #144832-16 or #144833-16.

i'm looking into the #144832-16 i'm changeing them due to the comp 918 haveing problems. also for the fact that im playing russian ruelet with the size of my cam. do you know if the stock retainers and seats will work or should i look into some titanium retainer and aftermarket seats?

Stock retainers and seats will not work with the crane 832's. The crane springs are not a "beehive" design like the stockers or the 918's. I am in the same boat as you. I have 918's ready to go in but hear enough of these breaking that I am a little nervous. These were to go with crane 1.8 RR's on a stock cam, so a very mild set-up but I still don't know if I trust the comp 918's.

Crane sells the proper seats and retainers for the 832's and offer both steel or titanium.

I'm running 833's and they are an excellent spring. The 832's and 833's use the same retainers, keepers, and seats. I recommend the titanium retainers over the steel.

you'll have to change the retainers and seats. how high are you spinning it?

the 832 will do good for 6500 rpms.

if you are going higher, i'd recommend the 833.

Understand your concern on the 918's, someone in Australia just lost a motor from a new installation of the 918's and they are getting a real bad reputation on their boards because of it.

I would go with the 833's myself, they are comparable to the Comp 921's and a little less money.

On the 832's, they set up light on the seat so figure out what you need for seat pressure and shim accordingly. Without shims, they will setup at approximately 122 lbs. They are designed to be versatile, but in doing so you need to shim them. Not a big deal, but just make sure you set them up correctly which you should really do with any valve spring.

i've been hearing alot on the whole 918's breaking and i think comp should make good on their defective parts. springs aren't that expensive but its just a waste of money to buy these and have them break or even worse put a hole in you piston. but a friend of mine is selling me his patriot golds so i think when it comes time to change them i'll be going with the comps.

As an aside, my new Crane Newsletter included an announcement of their new beehive design. I have another thread I started with the information.

Crane's been making beehive springs for a while. I used a set 11 years ago on a small block Ford with .529 lift. The springs worked well, though I thought they were a bit much for the cam. However, after about 70k miles, one of them broke. I looked at the fracture surface in a microscope, and it's a brittle failure, no inclusions or other damage. I would presume that their behive springs have progressed since then, and I know that Crane do a lot of OEM work, so this might be a pretty good alternative if anyone is still uncomfortable with the 918's.

70K miles is pretty good for an aftermarket spring.
