Default oilpan filterhole too small ? see pic

this doesn't seem right ?
wouldn't this cause any oilpressure problems, or are they all like that ?

thanks, Jeejee

Mine is the same way. Thats just basically the oil drain hole,no pressure.

oil drain ?

are you sure ?
i only see 2 holes going to the filter, so 1 must go in the filter and the other coming out.

so i guess both are underpressure....

If it's just a thin piece hanging in there, I would def drill it out. If the jagged piece is thick and part of the casting, just smooth it out with a small file and call it a day.

It's hard to be sure from the picture, but it appears to be some flashing that wasn't removed after the aluminum casting was finished. If you've done any sand casting you know that some small amounts of molten aluminum will flow beyond the boundries of the mold. That's what this appears to be. If so you can safely remove it. It's likely very thin. You may be able to remove it with a small fine thooth rat tail file. A drill seems to be a little bit of overkill for this modification although it would probably work as well. Just be sure you have the correct diameter drill bit.

doesn't really look like a casting imperfection though...

What makes it look like flashing from the casting is the jagged edge. This is typical of what flashing looks like. If it is located along the centerline where the two halves of the mold would have fit together that would be more proof it was the result of the cast. If you look at the casting from the side and you can see a faint casting line at this location it more than likely was a result of the molding process. What other purpose would it serve? You certainly wouldn't intentionally cast it with this imperfection.

Stock pans have that small sloppy casting hole that feeds your filter and motor.I don't like the looks of that setup but i also run a moroso with a external filer assy with -10an lines feeding my motor. The less restrected areas in the oiling system the better off you are.

i'll try to take a picture from the underside to show how it looks.
it seems that the hole drilled to the filter from the factory isn't drilled deep enough.
but i cannot imagine that is because of a mistake in the fabricating proces.
so it might be for a reason this hole isn't completely drilled through (directing oil more to the outside of the filter ?)
