Default Do bigger cams idle louder than smaller cams

I mean in general. Obviously theyre more lopey, but is it also louder since they hold the valves open a little longer?

I just recently swapped from a cam with 6 degrees of overlap to one with 16 degrees (at .050") and my exhaust is MUCH louder.

Actually, overlap doesn't have much to do with it. Overlap makes the cam lopier, but the thing which makes it louder is opening the exhaust valve earlier in the "power" stroke, when there is higher pressure in the cylinder. Higher pressure, more "pop" when the valve opens (technically called exhaust "blowdown"). So making the exhaust lobe bigger, and/or advancing the exhaust lobe centerline, will make your motor idle (and drive) louder.
