4.8 Vortech heads
This may be a dumb question but, I got a set of 4.8 heads FREE, I was thinking about having them Stage II'ed so I wouldnt have to have my car down while I was getting heads done. Are they even worth it or should I just save and get a set off the shelf? I will be running a GM HotCam BTW.

Re: 4.8 Vortech heads
lots of shops port the 4.8 castings. From what I hear the port designs are very similar from 5.7 to 5.3 to 4.8, as I've been assured many times that they are all capable of big flow numbers. The main difference that I've been told is in regard to compression, more specifically combustion chamber size.
The reason most people choose 5.3 casting over 5.7 is because the combustion chamber is smaller. This is great for a guy who is looking to up his compression but is worried about milling the heads to the point piston to valve clearance becomes an issue. With the 4.8 head this is true also, as it's combustion chamber is the smallest of the three. GTP offers a ported 4.8 head, and I've never heard anything but the best reviews on their work, so if the big guys use it, it must be good.
