Default LS1 to LS6 PCV Conversion: Block Question

I just did my LS6 PCV but had a quick question. When I took the original valley cover off, I noticed I had the little "hump" shown here.

I was under the impression that these old style LS1 blocks were only from 97-00 and some 01s. My LS1 pullout is supposed to be from an 02 Camaro. Did any 02s come with the old blocks, or did I get an 98-00 LS1 pullout?

If I did get the old block, no biggie. But as long as its a true 02 with the LS6 manifold, better hydraulics, etc. then I dont really mind. BTW, dremeling that thing was a PITA and was PISSED when I took the cover off. Was not expecting it!!!

ok, i'l try again, that what you went off of? and if i am gonna take a stab at your question, i believe in the later years there were some f-bodies that came with an ls6 block, but not all, but other than that, i knew of no differences in blocks of ls1's ever. I know heads vary, pcv's vary, but didn't know of blocks

From what I understand, there is no good way to tell if you'll need to dremel that bump or not, until you've pulled the valley cover. None of the LS6 blocks needed dremeling (even tho they got the LS1 valley cover) and 'some' of the later year LS1 blocks also did not need to be cut.

Its funny, becuase in my case, I had the opposite happen:

I was all prepared to dremel, bought a new set of discs, lots of wide masking tape, paper towels and a vaccum. When I pulled of my cover, I couldnt believe my eyes - I DID NOT need to cut anything. It took a minute for the good news to sink into my thick head, becuase I never have this good of luck...go figure.

So I decided to try and read my blocl number back behind the drivers head. With the intake off, using a mirror, and me laying 1/2 on top of the engine...I was able to read it - It turend out to be an LS6 block. I had no idea until then.
