Tapping sound at idle, now at cruising speed
It started at idle very low, then gradually got louder. Driving to work this morning I could it hear over the exhaust with the windows closed. Oil pressure is fine, but when I start the car it takes about 2 seconds for the oil pressure to reach normal psi. The idle is slightly rougher than normal and the car seems to run fine. I thought it was the AIR check valves, but it sounds too metallic. I'm thinking collasped lifter or bent pushrod. The sound is coming from the driver side and is very pronounced now. Any suggestions?

update: It's much quieter now, though you can still hear it (sounds more like a exhaust leak).
I will try a heavier weight oil to see it is the lifters.

if you have an auto and have installed a torque converter check to see if all the drive plate bolts are all the way in, sometims they can back out after you have had them out. You could also have a PR or a colapsed lifter, these are the things suggested to me when I had a tapping but, It ended up being the bolt on the drive plate. Hope it's not something bad man! Good Luck

Mine sounds about the same. I was wondering if it is the now fabled piston slap? 10000 miles on a 2002 LS1.
