S1 Cam too big? G5X-2 just right?
I was hoping to use the MTI S1 cam in my 408 Stroker motor. But I called MTI and they said the cam would suck for a daily driver and to go with the X1. So I called LGMotorsports and they said the G5X-2 would be perfect.
Is the S1 cam really too big? I want lots and lots lope. The more the better I want my car too be fast as can be. I am willing to sacrifice more driveability than most people. I also drive a M6 so I wouldnt be facing the same probs as an auto. I'm looking for good mid to top end power. But I still want enough low end to have a good daily driver. So any comments/opinions would be great appreciated.
Thanks

IMO the G5X2 might be a on the small side for your 408. I don't know much about the S1, but the G5X2 can be a daily driven car in a 346 without too much hassle, which makes me think you would want more cam.

S1 cam specs: 244 244 .612 .612 112
R1 cam specs: 232 236 .575 .578 114
X1 cam specs: 230 227 .591 .571 112
G5x-2 specs: 232/240 .590/.609 112
MTI said that the S1 and R1 are both too big and are "race" only cams and that I should go with the X1. But I know the X1 is too small for what I am looking for. Its even smaller than the G5X-2 and thats why I thought the G5X-2 might be a good cam.
But after reading through ls1tech, it seems like the R1 or S1 would be what I'm looking for. And I dont really see anybody complaining about driveablity with the S1 cam.
I'm looking for something that will give me the most power, but that can still be driven daily. And I'm willing to give up some drivability, but it still needs to be within reason.

Right now with minimum tuning, after 200 miles on the motor, it is very well behaved and idles well
but with a lumpy lope at 850 rpm. I don't think you would have a problem with the R1

give me a call. We have 2 cams that we used in our 418 cu in engines.
Both are big, and both are in daily drivers.
