motor knocking????

motor knocking???? After first start up, engine completely cooled, the very first time the rpms get to 2k it sounds like the motor is knocking. Whether it is lifters/valves, I have no idea. It does it from 2k to about 2500. It only makes that noise the first time up there. Any time after that, it will not make that noise when the rpms get to 2k. Anybody have any ideas??
