Lifter plunger travel stock vs. GM HP lifters

Lifter plunger travel stock vs. GM HP lifters Are you supposed to be able to push the stock lifter plunger down at all? I have tried and tried to do this but the stock plungers will not budge. I became concerned only because the new ones move very freely.
I guess my concern is that maybe my new lifters are the wrong ones?

The new ones? Well, I just cleaned them today, then pumped oil into them (didn't "soak"), I used an old long spout style oil dispenser to pump them up. I can still push the plunger with little to no effort.
I'll go ahead and soak one, but I don't see how that would benifit more than the direct injection of oil into the oiling hole.
