Default Engine swap Question

I blew my 1998 ls1 its in a 1998 v6 model ......Now i'd like to know if the engine ,harness & pcm from a 2001 z28 will work fine??? when i did the swap originally (v6 toV8) i was told i needed 1998 parts because of the inside dashboard harness.

Other than that i'd think if it connects up with the inside harness it will work fine. Those are my thoughts am i correct??

they were right... you have to have the same year pcm/engine/tranny for the wiring harness to plug right into your dash harness without wiring cutting and all that stuff.

why do you want to get away from the 98 harness? It will work w/ any gen3 engine you put in the car. If you just want to get rid of the 98 PCM and harness for other reasons; you will need at least the same year dash harness, and possibly the cluster and Body Control Module.

I think it would be easier just to use a newer shortblock and keep the 98 PCM and wiring harness.
