Default Stock crank/rods safe for a 200 shot?

I hear the crank is good for just about anything I can throw at it..but what about the rods? This LS motor is going into my 93 RX7 and I was wondering if the stock rods(with rod bolts of course) would be safe for a constant 150 shot for the street(to get from 0 to the speed limit of course) with the occasional 200hit at the track/dyno queening. Would I be better off just getting better rods since ill be replacing the pistons anyways or will they work.

I would def get some rods....even more so for a 200 shot!!!!Plus you are already gonna have the motor apart,so why not have that added insurance in the back of your mind

Stock rods are good for quite a bit. 550-600 rwhp is about their limit. Now the rod bolts themselves are another matter. Granted aftermarket rods are generally alittle longer which gives the combustion process alittle more of a mechanical advantage on the crank to turn everything over, but it's all in how crazy you want to get with it.

If you're talking about forged pistons only it'll hold. The Outlaw TA was hitting a 300 shot out of the hole and running 9s with just forged pistons before the stock rods started getting wavy. Ideally though if you're planning on changing the internals it's a good idea to go ahead and change the rods too. Check the nitrous section, this has been discussed a bajillion times.

Ok, well like I said..it will see a 200 shot occasionaly mostly a 150 shot...the car is gonna be around 26-2800lbs total when finished and I think a 200 hit might be too much for the street...plus with heads/cam I dont really think ill need it to beat most of the cars around here.

Not a fan of the stock rod bolt for your application.

I think rods would hold. Forged pistons & aftermarket rods would be best. The stock pistons would probably hold for a while too but 200 is a pretty serious shot to hit a hyperuretic (sp) piston with over and over. The crank is a very good crank and probably ok.

It would be cheaper to use the higher quality parts all in all, than to have to redo if something goes wrong. I think upgrading is the better choice.

Good Luck with your project.

If I kept the stock rods..I would def. upgrade the bolts...also I will be using forged pistons without question.
