Default HOTT...My Ws6 reached the red area today

Picked up my Ws6 today, and on the way home after a 40mph pull with another trans am and reaching welll over the posted speed limit (red lining every gear up to 5th i slowed down and noticed my needle in the red. I soon pushed in the clutch and slowed the car down to 70 and put it in 6th and let it idle until it went back down to normal temp (around 210). Car does run a little hot also and remember it has 140,000 miles on it. Has plenty of coolant also. Any ideas?

Do you by any chance have a CAI kit (SSRA, FTRA, etc.)? If so, that could be the cause (and the fact you were pushing your car). The CAI will block airflow to the front of your condenser, which will cause your car to run a bit hotter.

At 140,000 your water pump might be on its way out. I agree with slow trap, too. When flushing, I'd add water wetter to it because people say it makes a difference.

Green stuff? According to GM you have to run the pink stuff.

I would run the green stuff as well. I did on my camaro and am doing so on my rx7. Just be sure to get a complete perfect flush, you don't want the green and the dex mixing.

As far as GM saying you have too run dexcool, it's not true. You just have to copmletely flush the dexcool out if you want to run green, that's all. Dexcool, when old, gets clump and sludgy and is very nasty stuff. Green is far better.

I've read about this many times. I've never had the problem myself, but I thought I'd corroborate MDoe8 here. My solution is just to flush the DexCool more frequently, but I know a lot of people use the green instead.

If you flush dex frequently, it will work flawless. You just have to keep up on it. If you pop your rad cap, you will probably see a bit of this old sludge i'm talking about sitting at the top there, right around the cap area.

LS1 water pumps arent as hard as LT1 water pumps. LS1 pumps are belt driven where as LT1 are cam driven. LS1 pump is about 6 bolts if Im not mistaken.
