timing chain slack

timing chain slack
purchased a new In-Motion LS2 timing chain and gears for the new build. working on the stock 99 block and crank. during install i noticed what i think is a excessive amount of slack(5/16"-3/8"). there was a Rollmaster double roller set already there from the previous owner, which i replaced because of the same problem. to my knowledge and from what i could tell during removal/disassembly, there has been no previous machine work done to the block.
what is the specified amount of slack for the LS1 and is there maybe a tensioner/damper upgrade available?

There is a tentioner availabe and requires block drilling/tapping.
But the slack is normal at those specs. You want some slack because of the cam bearing softness. Too tight and it will wear out the front bearing prematurely.
