Default Comp Cams compensation for broken 918's

They found a few bad batches, which should be posted on their site now. Anyway after talking to the VP's a couple of times I just recieved a check (which completely covered the cost of my repairs) from Comp AND 4 yes 4 free t-shirts! Actually once the ball started rolling a bit, they were very friendly and pretty easy to work with. They also said any rep that told people anything along the lines of sorry about your luck should be reported ASAP. Their policy states that with any problem of this nature it should be instantly directed to one of the VP's.
In short, they are working with people for the damage caused by their springs - within reason. Don't try and get them to pay for a broken spring that has like 30k miles on it, they should be replaced by then anyway.

I had a damaged head, EVERYTHING was covered. So a broken motor may not be out of the question.

This is great to hear. I'm glad Comp stepped up & handled the problem. I know lots of people had lost faith in them once all this started.

I don't see anything on there site. When did you get your springs? We bought some last fall, but haven't driven the car much. Would like to find some more info.

I guess they don't have them posted yet, it will be before long though. I bought these in January and were produced about a year ago. Another person was gathering info on batch numbers, I'll see if I can track them down.

The track with be after a few other things, I'm ordering a clutch and drag bags now. The some tires are next in line.

I bought mine in mid-late december, batch # 051791 and it would be nice if I could get a refund or something, I'm pulling them off with about 3k miles on them and putting on pac 1518's.

These are some of the batch numbers that had early failures. I borrowed this from a thread on ls1gto by BeepBlueZ
1) 49253
2) 049045
3) 49826
4) 050808
5) 051791

Why not call Comp with your batch number and ask if they are in the affected batches? Have you pulled a cover to check on them even? If not, it's kind of ludicrous to just want a refund for some springs that you don't even know are bad.

I'm pulling them because my batch # is on that list, I'm not going to keep driving it and finding that the springs are bad the hard way. And comp switch spring suppliers in january 06, so I'm not going to be running any more comp springs in my car. And I can see a few design differences on the pacs compared to the new 918's that would make the 918's weaker too.

If someone was ordering the springs now, how could they be sure they were getting springs from the "good" batches? I would guess that some vendors might have the defective springs still in stock from orders placed before the problem was known. Has Comp instituted a recall/replace program for vendors to insure that the affected springs are pulled from the system?

No, but you could order from a vendor that sells through the springs fast enough that you're not buying a spring that was made over a year ago You can even ask the salesperson to tell you what batch number(s) they have on the shelf, then cross reference to one of the threads here or better yet call Comp and ask if that's part of the affected batches!

You could always order the crane or pac beehives. PAC was the supplier of the 918's until January 06, and now PAC is supplying crane with beehives.

How do I tell the patch # from the springs themselves?
