Default Stroke ONLY ?

So can I take my motor and have a big crank put in without changing/pulling the pistons? I'm not finding anything in the search which leads me to believe that you can't. If I did do this would the piston at TDC hit the head?

Can't. Stroke changes, piston changes. No way around it.

LOL...yep we've all tried figuring out a cheap way at one point or another. However keep in mind, when it comes to mods (especially internal engine mods), you get what you pay for. In this case...cheap is not necessarily better. It's always better to pay more for the added insurance that your setup will last.

Good luck and happy modding!

The location of the pin as well as running a shorter ring package/compression height are the two obvious changes. There are quite a few other small changes as well.

a longer stroke will put your pistons way out of the hole,if i remember correctly going from say the stock 3.622" stroke to a 4" stroke will put your pistons .189 thousandths of an inch out of the hole so you will obviously tag your heads since head gaskets are only .053 thou thick and pistons already come out of the hole around .007 thou or so.

You can "just stroke" without changing pistons, you have to go with a shorter connecting rod...which then your defeating the purpose of stroking since it will not make as much power as a strocked engine with a stock length or longer rod. You need to stay around a 1.55 rod/stroke ratio or better. The stock engine has a 1.68 and a stroker 4.00 with the stock length rod(6.098") has a 1.52...wich is a tad low. The MINIMUM rod length I would run would be a 6.125 which would make it a 1.53, my prefered rod is the 6.200"(which comes in at a perfect 1.55). If you stroke a LS1 and run shorter rods so you could run the same pistons it would be a rod length of 5.909 and would come out to a 1.48 R/S ratio...which is terrible....
