Is just a cam worth the time and money
I have a 2001 ws6 a4 with some bolt ons lt pacesetters, ory, lid, 373's, ported tb, I had it tuned last year i put down 360hp and 380ft lbs torque looking for at least 400hp but to be safe on a stock block, Im not looking to spend too much. i do all my work myself but i wanted to know if just a cam is going to be worth it or should i wait for a set of heads too, if so any recomendations or specs on some with the same setup

absolutely. a cam will be the biggest n/a power adding component you can add. the gm factory used a small, fuel efficient, emissions friendly cam that has absolutely excellent street manners. there is a lot of power to be gained as the cam is the "heart/brains" of the mechanical process of the motor. if you wanted an upgrade, i would look at a TR224 for an all around, proven, reliable, and common camshaft. much more than that on a stockish motor would begin to degrade driveability. if you want more than that, get ahold of patrick G on this forum, and pay him 25 bucks to get a custom cam specc'ed out for your motor. there are too many variables, from what you want to how your motor is built to give you your "best" cam. you can also call any major camshaft manufacturer and most will walk you through what you have done to your car and what you want it to do and can give you a camshaft reccomendation based on that. of course, heads will help but your stocker ls1 heads flow remarkably well compared to any old school smallblock set of heads out there. there is power to be gained with heads and i would reccomend it when you can. remember, if you change your heads, then the camshaft may have to be changed yet again to get the motor to perform at its optimum level. its all a package that works together. the best cam for your car with stock heads is different than the best cam for your car with modified heads.

yeah im wit him... i think you should look on the lines of the 224 or if you want a little bigger than go with a 228. the only thing i would recommend that he did not say was a converter. you will not get full power out of your car w/o one. when getting a stall/cam/heads your going to have to find ones that work together. i would suggest that you get a 3400 converter, 224 cam, and a set of ported ls6 heads. that will make a nice combo and with that and all bolt ons you could see low low 12s and even 11s if you hook good

I ran a TCI SSF-3500 in my previous cammed A4 car. I had no problems with it. If I were to add another f-bod to the collection, and it happened to be an A4, TCI would be on the list of verters to chose from.
With all that said, Yank seems to have a large crowd of supporters as well as several options to go with. They arent on the cheap end of the spectrum however. Make sure you get a sufficiently sized trans cooler to go with it.

3200-3600 Yank
TR224 114 LSA
converter was the first real mod other then a catback
