Default New Lifters and still have a tick....HELP

Well start from the beginning. Did a cam swap and went with
*T-REX CAM
*7.4 HARDENED PUSHRODS
*PATRIOT GOLD EXTREME SPRINGS
Got everything together and drove around for a while and and everything was fine.Broke everything in and then drove it to work... I here a distinctive lifter tick. so IMMEDIETLY drove home pulled the valve covers and checked everything and retorqued the rockers and started it back up and no noise...THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS FINE.
So the next day i decide to drive the car to work and im on the eway for 5 minutes and theres the tick again. Shut it off wait 5 minutes and then start it, NO TICK..
Get home from work dirve it around to the local cruise nites and no ticking at all... So ive noticed the problem only happens when im on the eway.
So i say forget it and change the lifters to COMP R'S.. and still when i get on the eway i get a tick...
WHY DOES IT ONLY TICK ON THE EWAY AND IT I LET IT SIT A MIN IT GOES AWAY???????????? HELP

I have found that sometimes its the rockers themself making the tick and not the lifters

Have you monitored the oil pressure when it happens? I would think that the highway driving would be in a higher gear but lower RPM and you oil pressure may be down.

No not an exhaut tick. And the oil pressure is good 60 pounds and 30 - 40 at idle. Its strange cause its so spiratic and ive checked everything and cant figure it out.

May have a spun bearing, and it's just not bad yet!?!?! Heard that before, and sure enough, guy lost engine a week or so later, but he drove it in the ground becuase of it. I ave the same issue, and it's not exhaust, not lifters, and don't know about rockers, but i guess it's possible, haven't installed the harlan's yet

Dont the comp-R lifters require adjustable rockers? I believe they need to be right around .030 preload. You may not be directly on target using stock rockers. Might consider checking with a PR checker.

It's even tighter than that.

Pro Magnum Hydraulic Roller Lifters
Chevrolet Small block. For use in blocks originally equipped with hydraulic roller cam. 1987 to present, and GEN III, LS1, LS2, and LS6.

COMP Cams® Pro Magnum Hydraulic Roller Lifters™ are specifically designed to perform at higher engine speeds. When engines are equipped with a hydraulic camshaft, high rpm is limited by the improper position of the internal piston as the lifter inevitably "pumps up". This improper location results in open valves and therefore leads to lost power or sometimes even engine failure. NOTE: These lifters require an adjustable valve train (check here for adjustable valve train components), and must be pre-loaded to .002" to .004" for proper operation!

Crap, that little preload? I cant inagine it staying accurate. You could almost run out of preload just after the parts wear in!

still think you spun a bearing... Change your oil, check it for shavings, and check your filter for shavings

hmmm, DID YOU CHANGE YOUR TIMING CHAIN? and it's probably not, but if it's occasional, you could have some piston slap starting up. I wouldn't think so though

It could be your injectors.

Is it really loud? or can you barely hear it?

I have a ticking sound also. I installed new Harland Sharp roller rockers thinking that would solve the tick noise but it didn't.

As long as your oil pressure is good and the car runs good don't worry about it.

You know i thought it could have been an injector also... that was the first thing i did b4 i changed lifters. ONEBADWS6 has a 99 z also and we swapped and still had the same issue
