Shes So fine my 409!!!
Well I decided to cancel the JPR all bore 387 project and move on to something more worthwhile. I am going to have a 409 Alum block built. I will be using the Darton JPR bore motor then drop in a Texas Speed offset crank. The motor will be setup for nitrous so I can move my sled along. I am verry happy to be using two great companies for this buildup. I have the TSP lid and I was very pleased with it. I hope to have the car back still by the end of the summer. I will have to go cam searching now, but I will look to keep it streetable so I can enjoy it without blowing it up like I did the stocker. I will keep updates if they come to me. I look forward to having some cubes that not very many people have. I am all smiles baby.

Well, you are going to have a really nice motor there. I am sure JPR will do a great job for you. Just don't spin it too overly fast, and it should last a long long time.

Bear,good luck with your new set up.Damn a 4-0-9.
Shut Down -
Pedal to the floor
hear his two quads drain
now the 413s lead is starting to strain
well he's got with ram induction
but it's understood
I got a fuel injected engine sittin under my hood.

Re: Shes So fine my 409!!!
Thanks Guys,
This motor will be a real power house definatly! The basic parts run down list is..
TSP Crank.
Carrilo rods = cha ching.
7/16ths ARP rod bolts.
Fed Mogul racing bearings.
GM cam bearings.
Comp 248/.630 cam.
JPR Billet main caps.
ARP studs.
Z06 modded windage tray.
Diamond Racing pistons to achieve 11.9-1 compression.
Diamond tool wrist pins and rings.
teflon coated skirts.
High Temp coated piston tops.
JPR prepared aluminum block W/ Darton 4.125 sleeves.
Ported & shimmed oil pump.
30 lbs injectors.
New Throttle body.
Yella Terra 1.7 rockers.
Duel springs (the friendly type)
Urathane DS motor mount.
QTP LT headers.
and some other odds and ends.
Bears motor should be in the car by June 14th, by the 18th or so, it will hit the rollers for a tune in then it's straight to the track after 500 miles and 2 post oil changes. Then, I am going to put it on a serious diet! Thanks Bear!~
Joe.

Sounds like a great set-up. Did you also consider the iron-blocked motor?
I thought the Darton sleeves were full-proof...someone here suggested not to spin it too fast... ..why are Darton sleeves a problem?

I don't think there is nothing wrong with the sleeves. With the quality parts going into this engine, it will be basically bullet proof, however, with the displacement and torque he will have, I don't think there is a need to spin it as high as a highly modified stock Cu. In. engine.
Keeping the revs within check will insure the motor lives a very long life. Thats just basic common sense....

Re: Shes So fine my 409!!!
I agree whole heartedly about how high I will spin the motor. I am not looking to set any records or break any new ground. My car & I are Fat and we need more powah Captain. I want lots of drivability with this. I think maybe Joe is a little over anxious on that particualr cam. A 248 with 630 lift seems like it will be the same thing as my 346 all over again, lots of lump and high rpms. I know very little about the setup so I trust Joe. I am also looking at a Lunati 242 242 cam. That may sit a little better in my head. I will keep updating as I can. John

I think you're going to be very pleased with the new setup! I, too, have thought about a 409 aluminum block for my next setup, but that will be a while. I can't give up on the trusty heads/cam setup just yet. You'll have to get a few 409 cid decals cut for the new setup. I think a 242/242 would work really well. FYI, we went with a 240/240 in a 408 that we recently built.
We're really excited to be working with JPR with our off-set crankshafts, and we're certainly looking forward to the results!

Re: Shes So fine my 409!!!
Trevor if I send u my crank out as a core how much is the offset stroker crank.I could build the 360CI motor with this crank and I could use the stock rods?
I'm thinking of arp rod bolts,ls6 pistons, rod and mains and a full balance to my setup with your crank and a set of file fits.
I have Cartek S2X Rev2 Heads (LS6) and would be running a 224-228 581-588 cam with it.
I think this would be a nice setup for N/A application as I dont need forged parts since I wont ever be on the jug.
If I had the $$ I'd build a 409 too.
Good luck Bear...

Re: Shes So fine my 409!!!
...i'm currently doing a H/C swap. some day maybe a stocker would be in the works, however....
....early on i saw many using the iron block 6 liter as a base with a stroker crank....I guess more are now going with the aluminum Darton sleeves...
What about cost?
LS1 bloack $1,200
Darton sleavs 1,300
Machining ????
The cost of a new iron block is only $800 right?

Re: Shes So fine my 409!!!
Tom I forgot u would need to put the pin in a different location.I could use the stock rods though but I dont wanna spend alot of $$ re-building my shortblock.
I'm gonna balance the whole assembly using good bearings, rings and arp rod bolts along with my stock pistons.
