Default Word to the Wise using Pen Magnet Method

okay, when you do your cam swap, and you're using pen magnets down the pushrod holes. MAKE SURE YOU"RE CAREFUL PULLING THEM BACK OUT ! ! ! i broke the head off of one of the magnets today. Was almost finished swapping out m torquer 2 for a trex, then i realized, oh, better put the rockers back on, so i started taking the magnets out, but one came out missing somehting important, the magnet

That sucks! You think if you took a stronger magnet and stuck down in there you might be able to get the other one out?

that sucks man...i was going to do the pen magnet on my car...but they were much more expensive than the 96 cents i spent on 48" of 5/16" dowel rods. That worked great! Sorry you have to rip all the stuff apart to get that **** out

The good thing is that you didnt damage anything. Just a matter of taking it off and then putting it back on.

Yes, that is the main problem with the pen magnet method. I guess you just have to find stronger pen magnets. I got mine at Autozone in their little rack at the register.

i dont understand why you all even do the pen magnet thing. just buy a 4ft piece of dowel rod from home dept, 5/16 in size, and slide this under the lifters. waaaaay cheaper and easier.

yeah, the dowel works just as good as the cam tool, but i really would have gotten the cam tool to save just placing my order with thunder racing for head gasket and bolts!

Ya debated it for a while but the money we put into our car 95 bucks isn't that much, plus it guarentees that part of the install instead of what you mentioned of a more expensive cost like ripping apart the motor. Not the end of the world though, you'll have her rippin up the streets in no time once again!
