Default The Choppy Cam Sound

How come you hear the chop of a cam at idle... but not at higher rpms?

Because the valves are opening and closing too quickly at higher RPMs to hear the individual cylinders firing like you can at idle

Yep, that's also because the exhaust is able to scavenge the blown charge at higher RPM.. where-as at idle, you are basicly choking the intake charge with dirty air getting into the intake manifold through the valve overlap because there's no exhaust velicty to pull the spent charge out of the combustion chanber.
