Default another PTV question

im not sure if there is a formula out there to calculate the PTV without actually putting the heads on and spinning the crank. if there is a formula: then what is it. if there isnt.... would i run into PTV issues with my 383? AFR 205 heads straight out of the box, diamond pistons with -2cc valve reliefs, .040 cometic 4.030 bore head gaskets, and a custom grind cam:238/240 .605/.609 lift on a 112 +2

It all depends on where you install the cam, what intake centerline will you set up. There is no concrete formula because it is at the builders total discretion as to how cam goes in. The set up you listed may be fine on a 110 ICL, but crash on a 109. You just need to clay the piston to be sure. I friend of mine ran a "B" stock LT1 Camaro, His cam/head/piston set up worked the best on a 104 ICL, it was fine until 7200 RPM's, then he had contact. At 7199 he was fine, 7200 and bang. There are just too many variables for there to be a formula that I would trust my engines to, versus just taking some extra time and knowing for sure.

Wow, how did he get his PCM to stay alive at that RPM? And how does he know it's from the hardware specs and not valve float or a lifter collapsing?

He was using an aftermarket ignition/injection setup as allowed by NHRA rules, I'm not sure of the brand. As for the second part of your question, that is exactly my point, there was no room for error. His PTV was so tight, that any type of deflection or the slightest float or bounce and he had a failure.
