Heads only on an LS6
I tried to search, but it keeps timing out on me. Basically, I'm looking at the special that Livernois Motorsports is running on their ported 243's and the fact that they're giving a $300 return for good cores. I'm running a 2003 LS6 longblock in my '01 Camaro with the mods in my sig. Any input or comments on doing just a head swap? About how much do you think I'd gain? My rwhp is in my sig as dynoed by Eascoast Performance. Oh yeah, I just bought a set of Stainless Works long tubes w/ a catted Y from a member on here and am not going to swap out the MAC's right away if I'm going to do heads also.

Actually, I calibrated the flux capacitor to sync with the rollerized muffler bearings to achieve those numbers! Seriously though, when I dynoed it even the guys at East Coast were surprised. I must admit, I was too! The car runs good. What can I say? The reason I was considering a head swap was because I like the bone stock idle and figured I would net as much with heads as I would with a cam and not have idle issues. Who'd expect the full weight 600RPM dead steady idling car next to you to rip off a 12.11 et at 112 and change? I'll post up a video (if I can figure out how) when I get home to dispell any questions of the car's performance.

right on man, I'd say do a cam swap if anything, cheaper and easier with jsut as good results. If you want stock or close to idle there are some pretty good cams taht offer great results. tr224 for example. Later if you ahve the money when you swap the heads it will make even more power with the cam swap. Better yet, wait and save up and do them both. This is what I am doing right now. I want to swap my cam right now, but why if I get heads in a few months from now. Then you have to go get it retuned again, not to mention rip apart the car again. Its pretty much free labour install either one at the same time. Then it would be time for a trans and rear, its jsut go's on and on.............

Thanks for the input guys! It's a never ending cycle. Once the heads and cam are done and the rear is upgraded, then comes the roll bar. Now with more parasitic power loss from the rear as well as the extra weight from the rear and the bar, I'll need spray to bring the lost et back. Then with the spray comes.....you how it goes! Thanks again!

I don't personally think going from stock ls6 casting to a mildly ported ls6 would be worth the time and trouble. If you want to get a good gain from just heads, I'd look at the aftermarket castings, AFR & TFS. Yes, a cam swap is cheaper and easier, but the heads are the heart of the combo.
