Default Rockin Rockers

QUESTION:
What are the choices for hi-quality rockers that will fit under stock LS1 rocker cover?

BACKGROUND:
I have a Heads and Cam LSx in my 82' Corvette. It runs great, but sounds a bit like sewing machines from 900-1,500rpm. Thought it might have been push rod length, bu they checked out. The rockers are stock and seem to be going through their absolute full range of motion, maybe the sound is coming from them. I might just sit on it, but if there's a good cost effective upgrade to performance that might also limit this sound, all the better.

Harland sharp roller rockers are very nice and quiet compared to others. Quality piece. I get some noise but I think it sounds beuatiful LOL at 2100.

the crane rockers suposedly fits under stock covers but on my instruction sheet it shows where to trim some so some covers they may not clear.i hope they clear mine without trimming but if not trimming shouldn't be that difficult.

the crane rockers fit with no grinding on the covers for 99-up. the 97-98 style valve covers need some grinding to clear.

cam get them from vinci

replace your lifters, not the rockers.

Get some caddy lifters.

use the search to find info about "caddy lifters."

Thanks guys for the info. For those of you who have changed stock to to Crane/HS rockers, did you notice any additional power up top? I wonder if the mod is more or less obvious if you already have an aggressive head (compression 11:1, flow 305) and a moderate cam 114LSA 224/224 @.566. ???

I'll definitely check out the info on the lifters.

All right, I read around for a while, and couldn't find the pitch for why the Caddy Lifters are better, just people are using them. What is it about their design that makes them better than stock. PS My motor came out of a 99' Y-Body if that makes any difference.

Which package is it? The one I read about (LSX Shaft Mount) said it required milling of the rocker arm boss, which is more than I want to get into for this purpose.

The caddy lifters were feveloped by the cadillac racing team, they are not used in production cadillacs.. they were made to withstand 8000 rpm and are very nice lifters.. lots of upgrades on them. iirc they act as a solid lifter does at high rpm? maybe I'm wrong on that..

have you looked at the new Scorpion rockers? I saw them in GM High Tech Performance.

hands down use the crane quick lift rockers. '97/98 will require valve cover triming but other than that they will fit fine. you will be impressed. just follow install procedure precisely.

here's the dyno sheet from the wife's car. went from stock rockers to the vinci/crane 1.8 accelerated lift rockers. this was on stock cam and stock tune.

What did they say about the Scorpion rockers? Do you have a reference?

Someone over on CF had the Scorpion's fail on them, not sure why yet, but I would scratch them from your list or wait to see why they failed before buying. One broke, 13 others were cracked after 9,000 miles.

Yikes! I'd have to say that's such a catastrophic failure that it makes me a little suspicious that it may have been caused by some other combination of issues.

I'm still just doing research. I'll definitely be going with a 1.7 ratio, and generally lean towards things that are direct fit replacements like the Harland Sharps or Scorpions, but the Vinci/Cranes are looking pretty impressive.

Yella Terra's. Fit without modification to the valve covers. No problems with mine and they did quiet the sewing maching down to almost stock levels. At least on my car

I am running the Cranes, no issues here. Not sure what happened with the Scorpions with that other guy, may not even be the rocker's fault, but the jury is out so I would tread carefully.
