Default How you like your cam now?

Hi, since the search function always times out on me feel free to post the link to a former thread.

So I have been building an LT motor and now I just got an LS. This time I will build a nice slow LSx project, but the LS1 in the meantime is going to need some getup and go. Intake, Cam and headers.

So I am about to do my research on cams but I wanted to see what you are using and how you like it and what you would choose now and why (Daily Driver).

Also what is the biggest cam that you can put in an stock LS1? Not that that is my choice but I want to know the limits.

Pics of it on my fquick now

I love my cam. But I should have bought a rear end first cause the cam needs some 4:10 gears im not gonna waste money to stick gears in a stock 10 bolt. From 3500 to 6900 it pulls like a freight train. It would do better with a set of gears.

The LS is new to me I have a comp 503 in the LT with 224/230 and 502/510 which I like. but it seems like the LS can handle a lot more lift. I am thinking something along the lines of 224/230 but with 550 to 580 for lift with 114LSA. That way I should still have good low end torque with the 918 springs. Still need to to do a little more reading.

Why did the 01-02 get a smaller Cam?

GM put a smaller cam in the 01-02 to not have to use an EGR system. The smaller truck cam made less emmisions but with the ls6 intake it gained a few horsepower over the previous models.

I've got a Comp XER 228/230 going in sometime soon....I'll let you know how I like it.
It'll be a few weeks before my Z28 is running and tuned though.

That cam is very clos to mine: 222/228 lift .589 LSA 115. The cam you listed would do well as a daily driver but in my opinion you need gears to go with it. Mine feels abit sluggish until I get to about 2500 rpm.

224/224 - great daily driver
228/232 - middle of the road
236/242 - big
244/248 - race only

That's my take on things. Good luck.

I've got a TR220 in my car. It's a great DD cam. It's small by most standards on this board, but it works good and makes great torque for the street.

Any of the 224 duration cams would work well as a DD cam. My personal perference (for a street car) is to stay small on the cam and put in all the supporting mods to make the car as fast or drivable as you would like.

virtually same cam as me, difference is mine is on a 112+2 and I'm running an LSK lobe for the intake. I agree with your assessment.. very nice down low, good throttle response, can still pull 1500 rpm's in gear better than stock, and up top it never wants to stop pulling.. at least as high I'm willing to spin it (6300-6500 tops)

Where did you purchase your cam? What sort of dyno numbers/track times? I'm looking to swap in a 228/232 .612"/.600" 112 LSA this coming April/May. Thanks for the help.

I just finished breaking the Spec in, taking it in for dyno time and tweaking this week at Outlaw Motorsports.

Wel now some of ya gonna make me go look em up are ya

I see a lot of the durations listed but am I to assume that the lift is +/-.600 or so. from what I can tell that seems pretty popular (595 or 608 whatever)
