The only way the wipe pattern on the valve tip will change is if you shim the rockers or change to different rockers. This is because our valvetrain is not adjustable stock, this is unlike the older SBC's. It is still critical to get the right length pushrod to prevent damage and/or noise.

I have heard of ppl using 7.400 rods fine with the Z06 cam.
