Default LS6 motor w/ tr224 opinions?

Im about to pull the trigger on the tr224 cam for my CTS-V. I posted this over on the caddy forum but most of those guys are into FI rather then all motor, oh well. After looking at the the popular tr224 Im wondering if this is a good pick for my car. My main concern is to get buy the tech's at Caddy due to the car still having 40K worth of warranty on it. So my hopes are for to set the idle up high and hope that the 114lsa helps keep the idle close to stock. I will be running my version of CAI/ Stainless Works LT's/ RT cats/ Magnaflow catback. I will assume that I will need to tweak my tune a little with this cam. Just looking for some opinions on this one guys. I tried to do a search on LS6 with tr224 but got nothing on it. Thanks guys.

BTW my plans for the car are only road racing, no strip for this one.

It will only give you sound, what I mean is you will gain no performace just a lope and you will need to change valve springs, pushrods and get a tune to be able to drive it without it bucking considering your nice car is more than likely an automatic.

it will be the same as an ls1 but youll get better results because of the 243 heads.

I personally think that you will be happy with that choice.

One of you says it will only give me sound and the other says it will provide results better then the LS1? Well from what I am seeing the LS1 cars are getting around 400 out of this cam with bolt on's. I need to hear the cam with a LT's to see how bad the lope is, I hope its not too bad. As close to stock as I can get the better.

Yeah the CTS-V is a M6 car, I guess I should have mentioned that. I already have a set of springs and rods from previous builds so that should not be a problem. Just wondering what I can look for out of this combo. Thanks

you will gain some power with that cam in your motor . though you willneed to get it tuned being an auto . if you havenot yet you need to get your car breathing in and out as well as possible before the cam swap for best results .

I have a feeling that if I go bigger it will not be better, meaning that the tuning will get more involved and the dealer will catch on to it right away.

As stated above the car has long tubes and intake to help it breath. Im just looking for a simple kinda stealth cam swap.

TR224 is a great cam, and a great DD choice. I've never heard the 114 version in person so I can't speak about it's loping.

LT's do not void any warranty what so ever. Your dealer can not simply void your entire warranty based on something you added to the car. If they can prove that what you added to the car has caused a certian part to fail or break then they can choose not to cover that part.

Thanks for the input on the cam guys, thinking I will go ahead and get it ready for install. Should make for some good power with just a slight hint of sound.

Ask them if they install a hotcam or ASA cam will it void the warranty being a GM part! I still have warranty in my car, and the TECHS asked where I installed the cam and I said A PONTIAC dealer did, and show them the receipt!

Any after market cam that is not the factory spec one thet is installed in the car will void the warranty, when I use to work at dealer ship I just about lost my job installing the GM Hot cam, the only way you could get by with a cam is if it doesnt lope and sounds stock like the LS6 cam. Ive had great results out the LS6 cam with stock heads (241).

Do not listen to this response, the 224 is bigger than the ls6 cam and alot of people with this cam have put down close to 400 hp with bolt ons. A c5 zo6 puts down 340-350 stock. Change the cam and you will have a good bit more power, especially in the midrange.

My buddy has that cam in his C5 vette. It doesn't really have a lope at all andf has gotten him at the 400 rwh mark. He is Sleeperc5 on the corvette forum. I can see if he has a video of how it sounds.

That would be great if you could find that clip of that cam in his C5! I understand that if the dealer finds out you have a cam in the car it will screw with the warranty and this is why I stated above that Im looking for something very close to stock sounding. Only if your dumb enough to brag to the techs about the cam will you get caught if you have the right cam in the car. I think it helps that the car is a LS6 will a little bigger cam then a LS1, it may help with the noise the TR224 will make.

i have a 224 cam on a 112lsa, and it has a nice lope to it...im not sure how less of a lope the 114 has, but i know a 112lsa wont get past a dealer whatsoever. i have a cam, headers, and true duals and i dynoed 377...so you will make good power in your car.

Im not that concerned about what the peak HP looks like, I know that car will make between 375 and 400 to the wheels. Im more concered with trying to make sure it has a tame idle, I think having the full exhaust will help explain why its so loud.
