Default Shortblock assembly....do you have any input?

I picked up everything to build my shortblock about 30 minutes ago. I am going to start tomorrow afternoon when I get off of work. If you have built a shortblock and have any tips or things you learned your input is welcome. Maybe this can help others in the future...

Clean the block meticulously before you start installing anything. I like to plastigage all the mains and rod journals. Pin installation will vary with different companies. Silicone on the front and back of the oil pan gasket. I like to torque the head bolts to 70 ftlb for the big ten, and 25 for the small top ones in the gm specified order. LS1.com has a list of all the torque numbers and sequences, as well as jmx website. Rings just need to be filed before you install them. Again the piston manufactuer should of given you the gap numbers for N/A, nitrous and sc applications. Don't forget the rear oil plug or you won't have oil pressure. Spacers can be used on the rockers to get the right preload on the lifters. That is all that comes to mind off hand.

I'll add my .02

1) Cleaning Block
Block should be cleaned with soap and water. Dry quickly with filtered air and lint-free cloth.

2) Clearance for Bearings
Bearings should either be checked with plastigage or measured with spring bore calipers and a micrometer. Lube with assembly lube for final fit.

3) Ring Installation
Rings need to remain flat to ensure they dont break, ring expander makes much easier.

4) Wrist pin Installation
Whats the easiest way to install the spiral clip?

5) Crank Installation

6) Piston Installation/Bore preperation
Lube the rings with 30wt oil and coat the more with oil as well to lube the hatches for inital startup. Rods are installed with round edges to the outside of the journals and valve reliefs on the top.

7) Torque specs
Head studs:
ARP studs and lube 25/50/70, 25 on small ones

8) covers and gaskets
