Default Do LS6 heads out perform LS1?

I"m assuming that the LS6 heads outperform the LS1's. Can they be swapped and is it worthwhile to do it. I have access to an LS6 motor that a friend is doing a head/cam swap on and i was wondering if swapping the heads would be worthwhile. Same goes for the cam if anybody knows the difference there too.

get the heads, but you might look into a bigger cam to compliment your bolt-ons.

Get the heads & have them sent to Patroit or TSP to be port/polished. You'll get way more outta the heads that way. But yea, they are better than the LS1 heads.

I'd also look into a used cam & stuff while your doin the heads. If you don't you'll regret it later.

Heads alone probably 15hp the way they are.

heads alone...15hp

but $150 for head bolts and another $100 for gaskets...makes that not a very cost effective mod.

thats why we suggest having them ported...with the cost of a head install...why leave so much power on the table.

as for the ls6 parts all together. figure with the ls6 heads (stock), cam and intake...tuned about 375rwhp. and it'll be very peaky...that cam makes pwer up top.

Damn if your payin $100 for gaskets I feel bad for you.

I got the FelPro LS1 replacement head gaskets from Autozone. they are only like $17.99 each or something like that. It was under $40. And you can get new GM head bolts from SDPC for $35. Thats the route I went.

I have under $2000 in my entire H/C swap including my intake I still need to install. Budget builds can be done you just have to look around & find the right places or people to buy from.

yep, get them and have them ported if you have the $$. i just got a stock set from Patriot and I'm gonna have them ported and milled by a local shop. it'll be worth it.

price not being a factor, IMO its a heck-of-alot of work to do for 15 hp!
send the to Patriot or somewhere and have them ported... make it worth your while.

well, worth it imo. even with stock unmodified, heads,
good option to porting is insatlling 2.02 valves with a backcut.
will gain a few mid lift and peak cfm
but the the potential that comes with the heads with a bigger cam
is the real reward, also milling them will bring comp. ratio up and allow
use of cams with long duration, etc.

What gain can you expect from the ported LS6 heads?
And them milled maybe .015 or .02?
Since i am probably going to go that route, to keep cost low on the H/C.
Sorry to hijack

Not only do LS6 heads flow better than LS1 heads, but they have smaller combustion chambers also so it will up your compression ratio.

PP LS6 heads (243) over LS1 heads (241) Much better air flow. 11* vs 15* for smaller cumbustion chamber.

Rember the LS6 heads have the light valves and stronger springs.

Ive done several LS1 cars putting LS6 stock heads on them and pick up between 15 to 25 rwhp. And at the track in the 1/4 mile they pick up 2 tenths. This is what me and my friends have got out of them. Good Luck
