Default LQ4 or LQ9 will swap in to an Fbody?

I was told one of these engines has the crank that sticks out more at the back of the engine thus making it impossible to bolt the M6 tranny to. What one are you 6.0 guys using and is this the truth about the cranks being differant?

You just want the 6.0 to have a reluctor wheel compatible with LS1 series.
Other area is alternator holes are only 2 on trucks and 3 on F-Body. Some like to drill and tap but I've used mine with only 2 holes and no issues.

the older 6.0's have the longer crank snout. i think 01 and under. if you get an 02+ it will work. i stuck an 05 lq4 in mine with no problem. its an a4 but they bolt up just the same.

ok, so it's 01 and older? I thought it was 02 for some reason.

Actually it is only the 1999-2000 models. You can tell them apart because of the iron heads. Later model LQ4/LQ9 had a spacer on the crank for mating up to a 4L80E. This spacer can be removed and you can mount your LS1 flexplate/flywheel on instead. Also as Predator-Z said, the 6.0L block has a boss that is undrilled for using 3 of the 4 bolts for the F-Body Alt bracket. I drilled and tapped mine, but it is sturdy enough with the two.

ok so I should be able to bolt up the M6 to the 01 and newer? Also will the 01 and newer heads accept the LS6 intake manifold?

Yes, the 317 heads are typically swapped to on LS1 for boost applications, to lower the CR. As sroach20, I have my LS6 intake on my LQ4 317 heads.

Everything ive heard says the boss thats missing, is lliterally missing! Its not something easily drilled and tapped. GM did not just leave a block undrilled/tapped, the entire boss is missing from the casting!

Im a lil concered as my procharger will be running on 2 bolts instead of 3 because of this. So far a number of people have done it with zero issues so i guess ill cross my fingers and pray lol.

Default spacer

I really need a pic or some info on this I was about to buy another LS1 crank as my m6 wont bolt up. That means more bearings and all because the engine was together and about to be put in when we noticed it doesnt bolt up too much of a Gap. Tick performance said I needed to swap the crankshaft.

THIS could save me BIG if anyone can shed some insight on what I need to relay to the mechanic.
