Default Cam install problem

Installed my new cam yesterday but had a little problem, I used two wood sticks to hold the lifters and one got stuck. Its wood from home depot so its not a hard wood. Do you think I could have any problem if I start my car like that? I was thinking on driving it and changing oil every three months since lifters go down and up without problem, but would like your opinion, thanks.

damn, I don't know what to say. Changing oil often may work but if there is a big piece it may plug the pickup. Try spinning it over a few time and then, pull the pan.

I think I'll change oil every month and clean the oil pump filter and pick up tube since the lifters dont get stuck with the dowel, the car works fine. I guess I'll remove the engine in a few months from now and then get that thing out, thanks

if it was stuck in there it is in a million little pieces now lol. I think you should drop your oil pan and see what kind of mess you have . How big was the piece of 5/16 dowel that broke off?

Damn dude I definitely wouldn't run the car.

If it clogs up the oil flow then you will have much bigger problems. **** wont be getting lubricated which means it will be more prone to breaking.

If you are planning on taking it out in a few months, why not just do it now?

The best part is this cat is serious about changing his oil every so often thinking it will magically dissolve. Am I drunk reading this?

why did you even need anything to hold the lifters up, when i installed a cam on my friends 01' tahoe. the cam went in like butter and the lifters sat out of the way just fine. This was after removing the rockers and pushrods and turning the cam while removing.

So you left the wooden dowel in the engine and bolted it back up? Wow!

Yes, I had the car in a 3 floor underground parking lot and there's no way I could take it out more than driving it. I took it to the mechanic yesterday and he's checking how to remove that thing. Anyone got any idea? Can I push it from the rear part of the engine? Can I have access to it if I take the oil pan down? Pulling the head out? I was thinking on getting a long tread in it and pulling it

Have you removed the Valley pan on the top of the engine ?.. maybe you can use a Ice pick or something to push it back out if is still alined with the hole ? or have about using a long wood / self threading screw and screw it into the end of the dowel. (funny, using a screw to get un-screwed !LOL).

If not.. you'll most likely have to do more of a tear down then you want.

Havent removed it and dont know I'f I'll have access to it. Do you know if I remove the valley cover I'll be able to get access to the dowel?
