Default Miles to spun rod bearing

hey guys, just another curious question. if you have spun a rod/main bearing; how many miles were on the clock, what kind of hp were you putting down, what are your driving habits? as always, any answers are well appreciated.

Yeah if you have the money why not, but it worked out good for me I had it turned back to stock and my warranty picked up the bill

lucky bastard! yeah i'm running really close to 80k miles about to do the ol' h/c + full boltons mod and some other crap. figured it might be a good idea to get all new bearings if it wouldn't be too expensive.

my car had the piston slap when cold and would stop when engiune was warm "i have videos"...whats weird is with the new bearungs it never makes a sound.....its strange....and i had been shifting at 6300 and bouncing off a 6400 revlimiter....

150k, that's not too shabby...this keeps putting me in the dilemma of whether or not to just replace the rod bolts and not worry about installing new bearings.

93k miles spun 1 rod bearing, and a couple others were ready to go. 400rwhp TSP 233/239 cam. It was cammed at 60K miles. Car was run very hard, powershifted a couple times a day, and driven 30,000 miles a year lol.
Now its back, and better than ever, cheap *** 243 heads, cam cam, forged rotating assembly.

anybody have any recommendations of either having the engine rebuilt at a shop with new bearings or just replacing the rod bolts in my garage? the only thing that is keeping me back from just taking the engine to a shop is the $. just spent 3 grand for performance mods and still have to buy more before i get back to the states. i'll have the cash, just wanted to have some extra laying around.

If you want to do it right, get some good pistons and rods, with good rod bolt in the rods. Find a machine shop that has an LS1 torque plate, have them torque plate hone, no more than .005" over, and have them balance the assembly. Either turn or polish the crank, and all new bearing. If you don't want to do this, i would probably just throw some rod bolts in it and pray. This is just my opinion....do it once, do it right...

i see a lot of you replacing only bearings, but keep in mind too while your down there, the oil pump keeps the bearings lubricated, no oil pressure = death, so spend an extra hour and benjamin and swap out your oil pump too, since yall are obviously looking for longer engine life.

yeah so far i bought my heads, cam, melling oil pump, intake manifold, lifters. this week i'm gonna buy an underdrive pulley, TB, water pump, timing chain, lid, gaskets, katech bolts, and a few other things. i think i'm just going to throw the bolts in now (well not really throw) then toss a forged bottom end in there in a few years and give her some spray. thanks guys.

I had a 87 trans am that did the same thing and i thought it was piston slap. After a year of driving it spun a rod bearing. Come to find out it wasn't piston slap i was hearing it was the bad rod bearing on cold start up making the noise. That was a good one i kept driving it with the spun bearing for a couple of days and it really destroyed the bearing, rod, and crank.

I got a 98 with 75k and bolt ons no bearing problems here but debating on changing the rod bearings when i do my h/c swap this winter.

I spun #5 and #6 @ 92,000 miles....45,000 of those were Procharger miles, the last 15,000 with a BIG cam, and a least five 10 lb bottles of N20 through it.
575-600 rwhp
