Why,the 8.1 vortec is a big heavy oil burning, piston slapping(mine is at least)truck engine. If anyone was to put a big-block in a 4th-gen I doubt this engine would be their choice. Now a huge stroker, big cam oval port heads with a Dominator has probably been done.Track only of course.

would it fit? Is it based on the LS1 (3rd gen small block) or is it an updated Big Block? Whats the block made of (iron or aluminum)?

Well this one has 42 more cubes. This one has 8 coils vs 1 coil and a dizzie. Different firing order is supposed to be easier on the crank. More aerodyanmic crank. Different ring spacing, shorter combustion height of pistons. Equal length intake runners, centered the TB up on the manifold. Stainless steel exhaust manifolds instead of cast (cause ya know cast sorta breaks and cracks sometimes, and cast is hard as **** to repair). Higher compression ratio too.

I'm sure there are some other differences.

Will the heads swap from the older big blocks to the 8.1 Vortech? Can a person put a set of Edlebrock Aluminum heads on one of these engines?

It sounds like its just a distributerless version of a Mark V big block. Does that sound right? Is the intake like the LS1's (same design)?
