Default Can I use 1.8 roller rockers?

This is what I have:

ls1 with GM hot cam and 5.3 truck heads cast 706 ( 2005 tahoe)

I want to upgrade my valve train.

I have ls6 spirings, magnum comp chrom moly hardened pushrods and wanting a bang for your buck set of rockers. I want a set of rollers.

Can I use a 1.8 ration over the 1.7? What would you use? and what would be my advantages and dis advantages?

Thanks.

Not sure the LS6 springs are up to task, I would upgrade the springs at the same time with a set of stiffer beehives.

Some say I would possibly break my springs or they would wear out really really quickly. Is this true? or better said what is your opinion?

525 is like, a small lift increase from stock, i really dont see why any springs wouldnt work, the LS6 springs are rated to a .550 lift.

Im dumb when It comes to the valve train. Im just taking advice from more experienced gear heads and going with what has worked for them. Lots of reading and learning but I love this kind of stuff. Would a 1.8 rocker make my lift any higher? If so can anyone give me a guesstimation on how much?

Yes, u can use the 1.8 rockers on the gm hotcam. The rocker arms bring lift to 556. However, if you are running ls6 springs you will want to change them out to prevent valve float. Look into comp 918's and titanium retainers.

certanly.... right now with a .525 lift and a 1.7 ratio you have to divide out to find how big your cam lobe actually is. .525/1.7 = .309. To find out your lift with 1.8 rocker ratios, you would then multiply your raw cam lobe height (.309) by the new ratio (1.8) and you would get .309*1.8 = .556 lift. This also means that with that new lift you can not use the GM ls6 springs. You would need springs with a .600 max lift at least. However if your not going to change your cam, then slp makes a 1.85:1 rocker ratio, making your lift .571. With that duration your cam will feel like a decent sized cam, and not just a small upgrade from a stock ls1 cam. But if your plan on changing to a bigger cam, the higher rocker rations are not recommended.

I am wanting to upgrade to roller rockers and I have the options of 1.7 or 1.8 with the set im looking at. I figured for the same price, Why not go ahead and get the 1.8 if my car can handle it. I may invest in some better springs as well.

Thanks guys.

Which rockers are you looking at? All rockers are not created equal.

Would you happen to know the max lift on a set of stock LS1 C5 springs (non-Z06)?

Umm, actually I dont. It is an ls1 so i dont see why the springs would be different at all, however in any case id highly highly doubt they would be more then .550 max lift. What kindof lift do u plan to run

Don't use them on anything but a stock setup.

I ran a setup back in 2003 with 568 lift Comp Ti retainers and the yellow Z06 springs and had no problems what ever....valve float was never an issue. A stock 2002 - 2004 Z06 has 550 lift.

A friend wants to donate a set of lightly used 1.8 rollers to me for some work I did on his car. I have a stock C5 and thought that it would be interesting to install just those on the stock cam and see if there was any noticeable improvement in performance. Lift will be just under .510. I was reasonably certain that lift wouldn't be an issue, but I just wanted to check to ensure that nothing would jump up and bite me in the ***. I have HPT to tune with.

Has anyone changed just the rockers on a stock C5? Can you comment on the result? Anyone have a dyno sheet?

Just installed a set of the new 1.8 Scorpions on a 525/528 in a 4.8 Sierra. Used some Comp 918s some people seem to be so afraid of. No problems. Runs and sounds great. The owner loves it. Based on the formula the 1.8s add approx. 0.030".
