Default loose front cam retainer??? WOW!!

So would a loose front cam retainer plate cause low and fluctuating oil pressure? Guess why i'm asking

Haha! that sucks. No telling what kind of hell you might have been putting your knock sensors through if it was moving around horizontally. How did you find out?

That cam retainer plate also has a seal on the back side of the plate that seals against two ports on the block.

bingo! oil for lifters galley if i'm not mistaken.

Jesus. That could be catastrophic if you have oil leaking down from the top end too quickly.

tell me about it. I was laying there under my car about to start freaking out because i was afraid I was going to have to yank my engine, when I just happened to look thru one of the holes on the cam gear and seen bare threads showing. I knew instantly that was it. apparently the seal blew out and caused the bolts to become loose. I loctited those bitches good this time (thought I did that the first time around?)

As mentioned the oil galleys would leak straight down into the pan. This would certainly cause low oil pressure.
