Default what the hell spring help

hey i just put on a set of comp cam 918 blue springs. had them on for about 100 miles going with a different cam. my question is why the hell are two of the springs now shorter than the rest of the springs? lift on the cam was only 580 lift. this car is really starting to **** me off.

what do you mean they are shorter ? springs that are compressed are open valves kind of like your engine on pause if you are looking at them with the valve covers removed .

It means that they took a set. Could be a valvetrain dynamics problem or a manufacturing problem.

Sounds to me like a set of paperweights, do you have the batch number? There were clearly identified problems with certain batches of the 918's. At least you found it on your bench, others have not been so fortunate.

I wouldn't use them. Call Comp to explain this. I'd ask them to replace them. They will probably ask you to send them in to be analyzed. They did this for me when I had one 918 break at the bottom coil years ago.

Thumbs up

sorry didnt mean anything by it , just didnt understand what you were saying .

let me ask you how old are the springs or when they were purchased ?

there are stories going around of a bad batch maybe batches of the famed blue stripes as they are not made in the same place as they use to be . i got an older set and they are top notch but there are a lot of stories here of late about them .

I personally wouldn't risk it, its not worth the price of a set of springs with the potential downside if one goes south. I would contact Comp, without complete resolution I would throw them away and get other springs.

at least you got the problem before it caused any damage. the 918's are priced pretty good, but there are several vendors who have double spring sets for like $70 more. the double sets will be rated for more lift and duration. if you are looking for some check out the patriot gold, tsp prc's and tea's springs
