need advice on rear cover bolts

need advice on rear cover bolts when i bought my LS1 the rear cover was only held on with 2 bolts and it was missing its gasket.
are the rear cover bolts the same as the timing cover bolts? i would hate to drop $20 some dollars on some arp rear cover bolts when i can just go to the hardware store and get some.
what would you guys do?
