AC Recharge.....How much Refrig.???
Posted in this section because I thought a lot of you guys that have installed cams had to do this.
I rubbed a hole in my AC tube and all of the refrig. leaked out. How much will I need to re-fill?
I plan to vacume the system well before the re-charge, any other tips???
TIA,
-Nick

I believe the factory spec is 32oz. of R-134a .. I also used 2 cans + 1 can of oil, and its working very well.. Almost too well, I think I need more freon as I froze up my evaporator on a long trip this weekend But DAMN it blows COLD !!!
BTW - no need to disconnect AC lines to do a cam swap

hey brains
you need to take out some freon you got too much refrigerant in the system. the refrigerant is getting uder 32 degrees causing the evap. to freeze up then blocking your air flow causing more problems. take a little bit out and check it

Re: AC Recharge.....How much Refrig.???
Niphilli, I just recharged mine about a week ago and if ya put 2 lbs in it will make way too much pressure and cause the compressor to kick on and off.
I ended up with 1.2 lbs and it freezes me out of the car.

Thanks for all of the posts guys. The car ended up taking about 1.5# of refrig, and a little over a bottle of oil. Our dealership quoted us the 2# number but it turned out to be closer to 1.5 like you all have said.
Nick, what are you going to use as a vacuum pump to pull the vacuum? BTW, shop manual says to pull it down to 30 inches/Hg, then wait a couple of minutes to see if it holds as a leak check.
A friend of my dads has an AC vacume machine.
