Lower oil pressure with new forged ls1,single turbo.
My old setup was a stock bottom end H/C/I with a ported ls6 pump. At idle i would have about 40-45psi hot. I reused the same pump on my new forged 347
and im only getting about 25psi at idle and about 45 at about 5k. Cant beat on it yet.
Before i was running mobil 1 0w-40, now to break in the engine i just through some 10-40 regular quaker state.
Is this bad? Should it go up once i go back to my mobil 1 oil? If i can only get 50psi at full throttle is that enough for 6800rpm?
Thanks
Alex

1. did use a new o-ring?
2. did u use the right o-ring?
3. is your turbo drain back line big enough or restricted in anyway?
4. try a different guage?
5. does this motor have very tight oil clearances, and you oil is to heavy?
just things for you to look at man.

Did use a right and new o-ring.
My turbo drain is 5/8 inch, no restriction.
the oil is 10w40, if it was to thick wouldnt the pressure be higher.
Thanks

Don't sweat it.
EDIT- o yeah, change your oil filter too. If the new engine is breaking in, there might be stuff in the filter. This was the case after my h/c swap.

Any other ideas? Im new to the FI world. Could the oil be getting to hot with the turbo. Also ive heard of people running some kind of restrictor in the return. What is the purpose for that?

any one else. Could the cheap regular quaker state just be breaking down under the intense heat of the turbo. I was thinking that the mobil 1 synthetic might not break down as easy. Also, can someone explain the whole restrictor in oil return thing.

I found that the weight of the oil and manufacture of the oil filter can play a big part on oil pressure. I used Valvoline 5w30 and a Purolator oil filter and noticed at idle my oil pressure was around 20-25 and cruising it was around 40. Cold startup was just above 45psi. Now i switched to a Napa premium filter and Castrol 10w30 and now at cold startup im looking at 50-55psi and idle is right at 40psi. Cruising is at 55-60psi. Big difference. Im staying with my current setup.

Okay, i now have 260 miles on engine, i changed the oil with mobil 1 synthetic 0w-40. Same thing happens. At cold start its perfect, under almost full throttle it will go to about 70psi. But as soon as i let in heat up for about 20mins, idle is about 25psi,5500rpm is about 45psi.
Could it be a bad sender unit, ive had the intake off a million times. Anything else i can try? Were would i hook up a mechanical gauge?
