Ring Gapping LS1
Hey my block with rotating assymbly without heads takes 100 foot pounds to turn it over with torque wrench I didn't gap the oil rings and I think that is what it is do you have to gap the oil rings and what gap do I gap them at?

End gaps and bearing clearances
I would stop turning the motor over as you are damaging the crank.Take the rods off the crank and store these.Turn the crank over by hand.This should be only 20to30 pounds to rotate.If the turning torque is more take it back and explaine the situation to your machinist.Take the compretion rings off without damage check for flat rings.If any rings are not flat throw them away.to check for gap ring put the ring in the bore thes shoul be betrween .0017-0022..Fox the end gaps on the rings.once the crank comes back mount the crank back in the block.Turn with a torqe stick.this should only be 2-3 ft pds.

I have never had a set of oil rings that needed to be gapped.
If your clearances are correct, first before you remove the rods and pistons - loosen the center main caps and try to turn it again. If that makes a significant difference, your crank is most likely bent and you will need to put a dial indicator on there and measure the run-out. If loosening the mains makes no difference, do the process of elimination that dmc described. Start with just the crank and check torque to turn at each step of the process.

Damn... first off, did you get all of the main caps back on the exact mains that they came off of, secondly do you have them all on in the right direction, do you have the thrust bearing in the right place? If so, before you tq the main bolts, give the crank a firm tap front to back, this will help align the thrust cap, then tq the mains. You should be able to easily turn the crank by hand. Also, did you get any of the rod caps mixed up or on backwards? If so, you are most likely screwed with the fractured rods. I also have never had to gap the oil rings, and i have used a couple sets of file fit rings, but the lower oil ring never needed anything. Good luck
