Default TEA Heads and Cam....

I am thinking about purchasing this from a fellow board member, and was wanting to know your input on it. All parts have around 4,000 miles on them. The heads come complete with YT rockers, also ARP Head studs, and Caddy lifters. All of this for around 1400 shipped.

TEA 5.3 2.5 Heads, unmilled...
FMS F11 Custom Ground Cam, 228/230 .576/.595 on a 112 lsa.

So what do you think? You think I should jump on it? The motor that it is on now made 430 on a dyno at MTI. I am thinking maybe with a Fast set up, I might be able to push 445 + or - a few..

This is with the mods listed below.

Thanks for your input.

Here's my breakdown:
Those heads used should go for around 450-600 max. The rockers are 400 new a used cam 250-325. Heads studs are about 200 new the lifters the same.

Personally I think it's to much money. It's all used stuff.
$450 for the heads
$275 for the rockers
$250 for the cam
75 for the studs
75 for the lifters

They are used and nothing great to begin with. I'd go 1100-1125 max for the package as long as they are the ultra lite YT's.

With the advent of other products those heads are not worth a whole lot. Used cam's are a dime a dozen and maybe its me but I just wouldnt buy used lifters. The rockers as long as they are the Ultra Lites, you can always have your rebuilt for $250.

I think you can do better for your money.

Look for a better used head. Then get a used cam. If you want better rockers have yours rebuilt for 250 from HS. Unless your going to run a big cam or max effort hi dollar build-up, the YT's are kind of wasted money in my book.
You can usually used stuff cheaper seperately, unless someone is really giving a great deal on a combo, but this is not one.

Yeah, complete heads, I think he said PRC Dual Springs. with TI retainers. And if I am not mistaken, isn't TEA heads pretty exspensive? I mean for brand new ones, I understand they should be considerably cheaper being used. But they are decent heads, from what I have read about them..

Those are their 5.3 heads. They are no different than any other 5.3 head on the market regardless of much money they sell them for(overpriced).

I was on Toms dyno with my tr224 prc 5.3's and a guy in Seattle who no longer has an American car had those tea 5.3's and an fm13. I beat him by and avg of 20hp and tq all the way to 6000 rpms. He peaked 7 hp more than me. Bigger cam more expensive heads got it's butt wooped.

Thats why I can say from experience those used heads arent worth the money and that is not a good combo to go with.

I just looked through the for sale section and there isnt much out there right now reasonably priced. Keep looking, you've got all winter for a good deal. They go quick when they get posted. I never tried to ask for to much money and my old stuff sold quickly all the time.
Whats your budget and what kind of power are you looking for? Just a street car or are you going to the track all the time?
Heres an example of to much money.. used Patriots for 8-900. You can buy that head new for a couple hundred more why would you spend that much used.
You shouldnt pay any more than $600 for a 5.3 cnc'ed used head with double springs. They are OEM castings in the first place. I'm not trying to be a dick, I've bought a few heads and cams now and sold a few as well.

Used Patriot or PRC ls6 stage 2 heads would be my first choices. Usually reasonably priced and very good results

There is a tr224 NIB for $325 in the FS section. Great cam, might match up with your stall, that I dont know..m6 guy. But that cam will be all you need for a long time. Ask Lss1 and b-rad

Okay thanks. I am wanting to build it for mainly track use, but with some driving around town or cruising. I was only able to race a couple of times this last year, but next year I hope to go to plenty more events.

Lol, I don't think you are being a dick. Thats what I asked this question for, to find out what other people think..

I agree, keep your eyes open. As long as you aren't looking at the same one's as me, lol. I'd go for the 243 castings as well. Good Luck
