Default fresh air hose?

a while back I got rid of my PCV due to massive oil consumption which getting rid of it helped but not a ton but then I switched over to conventional oil the same weight and almost stopped burning oil all together but my question was the fresh air hose do I need it or not I unplugged it once while the car was running and I noticed what seemed to be not really smoke but some kind of vapor coming from the hose that smelled like oil bad and the inside of the hose had oil residue on it along with the tube on the throttle body where it connects to and I put my finger over the hole and opened the throttle blade to see if the TB even tries to suck through that and it doesnt the steam? I guess just flows out of that into the TB but I think it is putting oily mist into my intake which I dont want so question is do I really need that fresh air hose or not because it honestly seems like it pushes air out from the valve cover not draws air in
