How long did it take you guy to do your cam and heads swap?
ive been talking to my teacher and he said he will help me when i get my car .. he said it mainly depends on the car but said it should like around 15 hours for him to do .. and for me around 3 weeks
im getting my car in about 9 months hopefully [working for the $$$] and it will take probaly a few months after that to get the money
some of the few things i want to do to the ls1 is going to be cam/heads and lt's but i dont want to get ahead of myself i tend to do that sometimes
right now im in rop automotive tech in high school and took basic and auto engines last year
by the time i get my car i will have finished rop and doing an extra year(just so i can use the shop haha)
im thinking of the cheaTR cam .. just so all i have to do to smog it is switch out the headers
how long did it take for you to do the swap?
thank you

Eh, I would just find a smog "buddy" who will "help" you through smog for a little extra cash.
Oh, BTW, that's weird that your school calls it "ROP Tech." My old school did too and it was like the only one around that did it. Are you in San Diego by any chance?

Took me and a buddy about 23 hours total for Heads/Cam/Intake. Taking our time, working on weekends only and hitting the minor snag here and there. Biggest time is cleaning the freakin' bolt holes. I bought ARP Head studs, go that was the last time I have to deal with that crap.

My LS1 to LS6 swap took two weeks and I'll guess about 50 hours out of them. I did everything I could while the radiator, intake, heads, wp, pulleys and timing chain were off. It was a great time to inspect and clean with the valve train disassembled as well. I carefully de-carboned the piston tops too. I wire brushed all the aluminum and painted whatever I could to brighten the engine up. I also ran a fuel pump hot wire kit to the fuel tank in those two weeks. It was just the right time to do those smaller modifications while the front of the engine compartment was cleared. I bead blasted my exhaust manifolds and painted them with POR20 (heat paint) and painted as much of the underhood and chassis as I could with Chassis Saver coating.
Here's a great thing to do so cleaning the head bolt holes is not such a chore: Once the water pump has been removed, use a shop vac to pull all the coolant from the heads through the now exposed water pump passages in the block. I did not have a single drop of coolant go into one cylinder. Blow compressed air through 1/4" plastic tubing down the bolt holes. Wrap a rag around the tubing to catch the debris flying out. Then, drop a little solvent down each hole and blow it out until dry.
One more thing - If you have high miles or an earlier than 2001 engine then do the oil pump too.
Don't rush anything! Stripped threads or damage to any new parts will ruin the memory....

2 days working from like 10-5 one day and 9-3:30 the other day to swap the heads, and the following day it took like 45 mins to get the intake and water pump back on. I also had to drive to the parts store the first day a few times, and goto Sears the second day (30 mins away) bc we broke a socket. I also did all the work in the parking lot of my apartments
