Default Another flycutting question.

I talked with John from TSP and we found the package that works best for me, and he told me that flycutting is "not" needed. I would like to get some more opinions about this set-up for a stock bottom end.

AFR 225cc head w/ 62cc chambers and upgraded springs

TSP Torquer V3 cam 231/234 .643/.598 lift 111 lsa

Also will be including a FAST 90/90, LS6 oil pump, Rollmaster double roller timing chain, and 7.40 push rods.

I'm not doubting what John says, but I would like other opinions on this set-up from people with more expierence with flycutting boundries. Yes, I will be using clay regardless what everyone says.

Also, what are the "safe" PTVC numbers?

Thank You.

I'm not 100% certain what the 'safe' numbers are exactly, but if memory serves me correctly, I beleive that the intake is something along the lines of 0.050" and exhaust is 0.100" due to the exhaust valve being hotter. Too close to the piston and you can damage it from the heat.

How much are the AFR's being milled to get to those cobustion chamber volumes? What gasket thickness are you running? All those things play a roll in piston to valve clearance.

safe intakePTVC = .080"
safe exhaust PTVC = .110"

that is what i have always thought and was told. it is a great idea to use clay no matter what someone says because it will give you piece of mind if nothing else!

AFR 225's come in 62, 65 & 72 cc chambers. Keep in mind that the larger 2.08 intake valve will leave you with less room than 2.02 or stock 2.00 valves.

Aside from that, AFR 205 heads have greater valve drop, the distance the valve moves off the seat before it reaches the deck surface, than stock castings. I assume the 225's are similar in design, but it maybe a good question to Tony Mamo.

Above all, whether you clay or use a dial indicator, it's to easy to check, and not much harder to cut if required.

Unless these are small bore 225s, I would stick with 205s (we are talking stock cubes right?) By using a TV3 and 205s, you ca use a thinner gasket and even mill the heads a little.

Thanks for the input guys...I am going w/ the 225's because I will be doing a 427 next year or so and I wanted to only buy a set of heads once. I'll have to check w/ John regarding the valve sizes because it's not listed in my quote.(I've had too many numbers floating in my head lately!!) I am sure that he said to use the stock sized head gaskets though.

I think I'll try calling Tony Mamo this week as well, he was at SEMA last week so I'm sure he's gonna be busy.

Thanks again and if anyone else has any comment please chime in.
