Default should I change the oil pump?

got 118k miles on the car... having a new 224/224 114 cam put in right now... while in there should I have the stock oil pump replaced? or is it one of those "if it's not broken don't fix it things"?

if so... which pump will suffice?

I would definately change that oil pump while I had it apart and as far as which pump to use , a stock ls6 , SLP , and Melling seem to be the most prefered choices .

At least go LS6 but I would def change it, only another $80-$100, I got mine used with 15k miles for $40 shipped and ported and shimmed it myself in under a hour.

I asked the same question, milage and yr of the veh made were a BIG consideration, I have 39k on a 02 t/a and I feel confident in leaving it alone, for you I would def do it.

Definately, and not to state the obvious, but change the timing chain, too.

Picked up a Melling for my motor with similar mileage and similar sized cam. Couldn't be happier. Yes do the chain as well.

^ yep, throw on an ls2 chain and ls6 pump and you should be good to go. i've heard good things about the melling pumps also so that pump may be worth a consideration.

If I'm not mistaken I think the some of the pre 01-02 oil pump's had a problem going out. IF not, I would still change it anyway.

I wouldn't change it. You obviously got a good one. I would change put a new chain on though.
